View Calculator →LIC riders are add-on benefits that can be attached to eligible LIC base policies. A rider is not a separate insurance policy by itself. It works as an extra protection layer over the main LIC plan. For example, a basic LIC policy may provide death benefit, maturity benefit, or savings benefit, while a rider can add accident cover, disability cover, term cover, premium waiver, or critical illness cover.
The official LIC Riders page lists seven rider products: LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider, LIC’s Premium Waiver Benefit Rider, LIC’s Accidental Death & Disability Benefit Rider, LIC’s New Term Assurance Rider, LIC’s Linked Accidental Death Benefit Rider, LIC’s Critical Illness Health Rider, and LIC’s Female Critical Illness Benefit Rider. The page also provides UIN numbers for each rider and shows the riders under LIC insurance plans.
A LIC Riders Plan Calculator helps estimate the premium, benefit amount, rider term, eligibility, and claim payout logic for these rider options. Since different riders have different rules, one common calculator is more useful than separate calculators. It allows a user to choose the rider name, enter age, policy term, rider sum assured, premium type, tax rate, and other required details to get a quick estimate.
This calculator should be treated as an educational estimate tool. LIC’s final premium, acceptance, underwriting, applicable tax, and rider attachment permission depend on LIC’s official rules, the base policy, age, medical condition, occupation, and proposal assessment.

What Is a LIC Rider?
A LIC rider is an optional benefit added to a base policy. It increases protection without buying a completely separate plan. Riders are mainly useful when the base policy does not provide a specific type of risk cover. For example, accident death, disability, critical illness, premium waiver, and additional term cover are different risks. A rider helps cover such risks at an additional cost.
The most important point is that the rider follows the base policy. Premium mode, policy status, revival, lapse, surrender, and claim conditions usually depend on the base plan. If the base policy is not in force, many rider benefits may stop or terminate. Therefore, a calculator must always ask for base policy details before calculating rider benefit.
A useful LIC rider calculator should not only calculate premium. It should also check whether the rider is suitable according to age, term, sum assured limits, policy type, and benefit rules.

Why Use the LIC Riders Plan Calculator?
The main reason to use this calculator is simple: LIC riders have different conditions. A normal premium calculator cannot calculate all riders correctly because accident riders, health riders, linked riders, term riders, and waiver riders use different inputs.
For example, LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider uses a flat premium rate per ₹1,000 sum assured. LIC’s Linked Accidental Death Benefit Rider uses a charge deducted from policy fund value. LIC’s Premium Waiver Benefit Rider depends on future base premiums. LIC’s Critical Illness Health Rider depends on age, gender, rider option, rider term, and critical illness sum assured.
This calculator brings all these rider types into one place. It helps compare different rider benefits before choosing which rider may be useful with a base LIC policy.
Main Highlights of the LIC Riders Plan Calculator
1. All LIC Riders in One Calculator
The biggest advantage is that all seven rider calculators are included in one tool. There is no need to use a separate calculator for accident rider, term rider, critical illness rider, or premium waiver rider.
2. Dynamic Fields Based on Selected Rider
Each rider requires different inputs. For example, Premium Waiver Benefit Rider needs proposer age and annual base premium. Linked Accidental Death Benefit Rider needs NAV because charges are deducted by cancellation of units. Female Critical Illness Benefit Rider needs module-wise sum assured. A smart calculator shows only the fields required for the selected rider.
3. Eligibility Check Before Result
A rider is not useful if eligibility is not checked. The calculator should show warnings when age, term, sum assured, or policy type does not fit LIC rules. This prevents wrong estimates.
4. Benefit Estimate Along With Premium
Many calculators show only premium. This calculator also shows estimated claim benefit, maturity benefit, surrender value availability, waiting period, survival period, and important notes.
5. Useful for Policy Planning
The calculator is helpful before buying a LIC policy, before adding a rider to an existing eligible policy, or before comparing rider options. It gives a practical estimate of extra cost and extra protection.
LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider Calculator
LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider is an individual, non-linked life rider. It is available as an optional rider for regular premium policies only. It provides financial support if accident leads to death within 180 days from the accident date. LIC defines accident as a sudden, unforeseen and involuntary event caused by external, visible and violent means.
The minimum Accident Benefit Sum Assured is ₹20,000. The sum assured should be in multiples of ₹5,000. Minimum entry age is 18 years completed, maximum entry age is 65 years nearest birthday, and rider cover ceases at 70 years nearest birthday. Rider term is the premium paying term of the base plan or 70 minus age at entry, whichever is earlier.
The premium rate is simple. For normal lives, the rate is ₹0.50 per ₹1,000 Accident Benefit Sum Assured. For police duty cover, the rate is ₹1.00 per ₹1,000 Accident Benefit Sum Assured. No maturity benefit and no surrender value are available under this rider.
Formula
| Calculation | Formula |
|---|---|
| Normal Annual Premium | Rider Sum Assured × 0.50 ÷ 1000 |
| Police Duty Annual Premium | Rider Sum Assured × 1.00 ÷ 1000 |
| Accidental Death Benefit | Accident Benefit Sum Assured |
LIC’s Premium Waiver Benefit Rider Calculator
LIC’s Premium Waiver Benefit Rider is an individual, non-linked life rider. It waives future premiums payable under the base policy if the proposer dies during the rider term. This rider is useful especially in child plans or cases where the proposer and life assured are different.
The rider can be opted along with the base plan or during the premium paying term, provided the outstanding premium paying term of the base plan and rider is at least 5 years. Minimum proposer age is 18 years completed, maximum age at entry is 55 years nearer birthday, and maximum age at maturity is 70 years nearer birthday.
The rider term is based on the outstanding premium paying term of the base plan or 25 minus the minor’s age, whichever is lower, subject to a minimum outstanding rider term of 5 years. The rider sum assured is the sum total of future premiums payable under the base policy till the expiry of rider term.
Formula
| Calculation | Formula |
|---|---|
| Waiver Value | Annual Base Premium × Rider Term |
| Rider Premium Estimate | Annual Base Premium ÷ 100 × LIC Rate |
| Benefit | Future base policy premiums waived after proposer’s death |
This rider does not pay a maturity amount. Its main purpose is premium protection.

| Disability Monthly Instalment | Rider SA ÷ 120 |
| Accidental Death Benefit | Accident Benefit Sum Assured |

For single premium policy, it is the higher of Term Assurance Rider Sum Assured or 1.25 times single rider premium. No maturity benefit is payable.
Formula

Real Calculation Example
Assume LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider is selected.
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Age | 35 years |
| Base Policy Term | 20 years |
| Premium Paying Term | 20 years |
| Rider Sum Assured | ₹5,00,000 |
| Police Duty Option | No |
| Tax Rate | 18% |
LIC’s Accident Benefit Rider normal premium rate is ₹0.50 per ₹1,000 Accident Benefit Sum Assured.
Step-by-Step Calculation
Annual Rider Premium:
₹5,00,000 × 0.50 ÷ 1000 = ₹250
Tax at 18%:
₹250 × 18% = ₹45
Total Annual Payable:
₹250 + ₹45 = ₹295
Accidental Death Benefit:
₹5,00,000
Rider Term:
Policy term is 20 years. Age is 35. Maximum cover ceasing age is 70. So, 70 – 35 = 35 years. The rider term will be the lower of 20 years and 35 years, which is 20 years.
Example Result
| Output | Result |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | Eligible |
| Rider Term | 20 years |
| Annual Rider Premium | ₹250 |
| Tax | ₹45 |
| Total Annual Payable | ₹295 |
| Accident Death Benefit | ₹5,00,000 |
| Maturity Benefit | Nil |
| Surrender Value | Nil |
This example shows why a rider calculator is useful. A small additional premium can show the extra accident death cover clearly before policy planning.
Why This Calculator Is Different From Other LIC Calculators
Many LIC calculators focus only on maturity value, premium, or surrender value of one base policy. A rider calculator is different because rider benefits are risk-based. Most riders do not provide maturity value. Their purpose is protection.
This calculator is different because it includes all rider types in one place. It checks rider-specific rules instead of using one general formula. It also separates flat-rate riders from sample-rate riders. This is important because some LIC brochures provide exact flat rates, while other riders require full official rate tables or sample premium rates.
Another useful feature is benefit explanation. For example, the calculator does not simply show “premium payable.” It also explains whether the rider gives death benefit, disability instalment, critical illness payout, waiver benefit, assisted living benefit, or no maturity benefit.
Important Things to Remember
LIC riders are optional. They are attached only with eligible base policies. Rider premium or charge is additional to the base policy premium. Taxes are collected separately and are not generally counted for benefit calculation.
For accident riders, benefit is subject to accident definition, 180-day condition, exclusions, and policy status. For health riders, waiting period and survival period are very important. For linked riders, charges are deducted by cancelling policy units. For term rider, death benefit depends on rider sum assured and premium-paid rules.
A calculator gives a useful estimate, but final premium and eligibility must always be checked with LIC’s official illustration or authorized LIC representative.

Conclusion
LIC riders are useful add-on covers for improving protection under a base LIC policy. The official LIC Riders page lists seven rider products covering accident death, disability, premium waiver, additional term protection, linked accident cover, critical illness cover, and female-specific critical illness benefits.
A LIC Riders Plan Calculator makes these riders easier to understand. It helps estimate premium, benefit, rider term, tax, eligibility, and important rider conditions in one place. It is especially useful because every rider has different rules. Some riders use flat rates, some depend on future premium, some require NAV, and some need age-wise or module-wise premium rates.
Before selecting any rider, policyholders should compare the extra premium with the extra protection. A rider should match the actual risk need, age, family responsibility, health condition, and base policy type. The calculator gives a practical first estimate, while final decision should be made only after checking LIC’s official policy illustration, brochure conditions, exclusions, and underwriting rules.
