Important: This is an informational calculator based on the original LIC Health Plus Plan 901 brochure. HCB/MSB claims remain subject to waiting periods, exclusions, hospitalization/surgery conditions and LIC claim approval. The original brochure specifies a 180-day waiting period from cover commencement and 90 days after revival for sickness-related HCB/MSB, with no such waiting period for accidental bodily injury. Fund value is exact only when correct units and applicable NAV are entered. *For an insured child up to age 5, the brochure states a 90-day maximum HCB period.
LIC Health Plus Plan 901 calculator showing Hospital Cash Benefit, ICU Benefit, Major Surgical Benefit, fund value and surrender value estimates

LIC Health Plus Plan 901 is a unit-linked family health insurance plan launched by LIC India. It combined fixed health benefits with an investment fund. The plan included Hospital Cash Benefit, ICU Benefit, Major Surgical Benefit, and Domiciliary Treatment Benefit.

This plan was launched on February 4, 2008, and has now been discontinued. It cannot be purchased as a new policy, but existing policyholders may still need to check their health benefits, current fund value, or surrender value.

The LIC Health Plus Plan 901 calculator estimates these amounts based on policy details. It does not classify Health Plus as a traditional LIC endowment plan because Plan 901 does not include a standard maturity sum assured, annual bonuses, or a separate death insurance cover.

What Does the LIC Health Plus Calculator Show?

The calculator focuses on values that are purely based on Plan 901 rules. It can show:

  • Applicable Daily Hospital Cash Benefit;
  • ICU Daily Benefit;
  • Major Surgical Benefit Sum Assured;
  • Estimated benefit for a listed surgery;
  • Minimum annual premium;
  • Estimated hospital cash payment;
  • Possible Domiciliary Treatment Benefit;
  • Current fund value; and
  • Estimated surrender value.

For the existing policy, to get the most accurate calculation, use the actual number of units shown in the latest policy statement and the applicable NAV. Reconstructing the entire fund based on past premiums may be less accurate, as the monthly health charges depended on the age, gender, and coverage of each insured member.

What Is LIC Health Plus Plan 901?

LIC Health Plus Plan 901, UIN 512L246V01, was designed to cover the Principal Insured, spouse, and eligible children under one policy. The Principal Insured selected an initial Hospital Cash Benefit for each covered member. This choice determined the daily hospital benefit and the Major Surgical Benefit Sum Assured.

A portion of the premium was allocated to the Health Plus Fund after charges were deducted. Units were purchased at the applicable NAV. The fund supported policy deductions and Domiciliary Treatment Benefit payments. Any balance remaining in the fund at the end of the policy term was payable to the Principal Insured. Investment returns in this plan are market-linked and were not guaranteed. A higher NAV could increase the fund value, while weak fund performance and policy charges could reduce it.

Plan 901 Calculator Highlights

The calculator automatically increases the Daily Hospital Cash Benefit according to the current policy year. The increase is 5% of the initial HCB on each policy anniversary, subject to a maximum of 150% of the initial amount.

It calculates the ICU rate as twice the applicable HCB and calculates the Major Surgical Benefit Sum Assured as 200 times the initial HCB. It also checks the minimum premium based on the number of insured family members.

Separate optional fields allow hospital days, ICU days, surgery percentage, medical expenses, units, and NAV to be entered when needed. This keeps the main form short while allowing different benefits to be estimated.

The calculator must also apply waiting periods and claim limits. Simply multiplying hospital days by the HCB can overstate the result if annual or lifetime limits have already been reached.

Eligibility and Policy Limits

The Principal Insured and spouse had to be at least 18 years old. Their maximum entry age was 55 years nearer birthday. A child could generally enter from three months of age up to age 17 nearer birthday.

HCB and MSB cover could continue up to age 65 for the Principal Insured and spouse. Cover for an insured child could continue up to age 25, subject to the policy conditions.

The initial HCB had to be selected in multiples of ₹50. The permitted range was ₹250 to ₹2,500 per day for the Principal Insured and ₹250 to ₹1,500 per day for a spouse or child. The spouse’s HCB could not exceed the Principal Insured’s HCB, and a child’s HCB could not exceed the spouse’s HCB.

Health Benefits Under Plan 901

Hospital Cash Benefit

HCB is a fixed daily amount payable for eligible hospitalisation caused by sickness or accidental bodily injury. It is not a reimbursement of the complete hospital bill.

The initial benefit applies during the first policy year. It then increases by 5% of the initial HCB on every policy anniversary until it reaches 150% of the initial amount.

ICU Daily Benefit

When an eligible insured member stays in an ICU, the daily benefit is twice the applicable HCB.

For example, an applicable HCB of ₹2,100 gives an ICU benefit of ₹4,200 per eligible day.

Major Surgical Benefit

MSB is a fixed lump-sum benefit for a surgery listed in the policy. The amount is based on the percentage assigned to that surgery, not on the actual hospital bill.

The maximum MSB payable in one policy year is 100% of the applicable MSB Sum Assured for each insured member. The lifetime limit is three times that Sum Assured. The surgery must meet the plan conditions, including the requirement that it is performed in India.

Waiting Period and Claim Limits

HCB and MSB generally have a waiting period of 180 days from the start of cover for each insured member. After revival or reinstatement, a 90-day waiting period generally applies. There is no waiting period for an eligible accidental bodily injury.

Hospital Cash Benefit is limited as follows:

LimitMaximum eligible period
First policy year18 days, including up to 9 ICU days
Second policy year onwards60 days a year, including up to 30 ICU days
Lifetime limit for an insured member365 days
Insured child before completing age 590 days

The calculator result should be reduced by any benefit days already used. Admission duration, waiting periods, exclusions, and claim documents must also meet LIC’s conditions.

Domiciliary Treatment Benefit

DTB allows the Principal Insured to withdraw eligible medical expenses from the policy fund for covered family members. It is available only after at least three years’ premiums have been paid.

The minimum claim is ₹2,500. The maximum payment is limited to the actual eligible expense, 50% of the policy fund, and the amount that leaves at least one annualised premium in the fund. A maximum of two DTB payments is permitted in one policy year.

The calculator can use this formula:

Estimated DTB = Lowest of eligible expense, 50% of fund value, or fund value minus one annualised premium

If the result is below ₹2,500, the minimum claim requirement is not met. Bills and supporting treatment records are required for an actual claim.

Charges Used in LIC Health Plus Calculator

ChargeOriginal Plan 901 rate
Premium allocation charge in first year30%
Premium allocation charge afterwards6%
Administration charge in first year₹75 per month
Administration charge afterwards₹25 per month
Fund Management Charge1.25% per year
Bid-offer spreadNil
Surrender chargeNil

Separate HCB and MSB charges were deducted monthly by cancelling units. These charges depended on the age, gender, cover, and underwriting decision for each insured member. They could change on policy anniversaries.

Because these charges are specific to each policy, an exact current fund value should be calculated from the actual units and NAV rather than from assumed health-charge rates.

Formulas Used in the Calculator

Applicable Hospital Cash Benefit: Applicable HCB = Initial HCB × [1 + 5% × (Policy Year − 1)]

The result is capped at: Maximum HCB = Initial HCB × 150%

ICU Daily Benefit: ICU Benefit = Applicable HCB × 2

Major Surgical Benefit Sum Assured: MSB Sum Assured = Initial HCB × 200

Major Surgery Claim: Estimated Surgery Benefit = MSB Sum Assured × Surgery Percentage

The annual and lifetime MSB limits must be checked before showing the result.

Minimum Annual Premium:

For one insured life: Higher of 6 × Principal Insured HCB or ₹5,000

For two insured lives: Higher of [(6 × PI HCB) + (3 × second-life HCB)] or ₹7,500

For more than two insured lives: Higher of [(6 × PI HCB) + (3 × HCB of every other insured member)] or ₹10,000

The annual premium must be in multiples of ₹500.

LIC Health Plus Plan 901 fund value, Domiciliary Treatment Benefit and surrender value calculations using units, NAV and policy fund limits

Current Fund Value = Number of Units × Applicable NAV

Surrender Value = Number of Units × Applicable NAV

The surrender date and applicable NAV rules must be considered.

How to Use LIC Health Plus Plan 901 Calculator?

Select the family structure and enter the initial HCB for every insured member. Add the annual premium and current policy year. The calculator will check the minimum premium and calculate the increased HCB, ICU benefit, and MSB Sum Assured. For a hospitalisation estimate, enter the normal ward days and ICU days. Also enter any eligible days already claimed so that the annual limits can be checked.

For a surgery estimate, select the percentage assigned to the listed surgery. Do not select an assumed percentage for a procedure that is not included in the policy schedule.

For DTB, enter the eligible expense, annualised premium, and current fund value. For the current fund value or surrender value, enter the actual units and applicable NAV.

Click Calculate to see the results. Use Reset to clear the form and begin a new calculation.

Calculation Example

Consider a single-life policy with these details:

  • Initial HCB: ₹2,000 per day
  • Annual premium: ₹12,000
  • Current policy year: 2
  • Normal hospital days: 5
  • ICU days: 3
  • Current units: 8,000
  • NAV: ₹43

The applicable HCB in the second year is: ₹2,000 × 105% = ₹2,100 per day

The ICU benefit is: ₹2,100 × 2 = ₹4,200 per day

The MSB Sum Assured is: ₹2,000 × 200 = ₹4,00,000

The minimum annual premium for one life is the higher of ₹12,000 and ₹5,000: 6 × ₹2,000 = ₹12,000
Minimum required premium = ₹12,000

The estimated hospital cash payment is:

Normal ward: 5 × ₹2,100 = ₹10,500 ICU: 3 × ₹4,200 = ₹12,600 Total = ₹23,100

The example is within the second-year annual day limits, but an actual claim still depends on waiting periods, admission conditions, exclusions, and claim history.

The current fund value is: 8,000 units × ₹43 = ₹3,44,000

If an eligible listed surgery has a 60% benefit: ₹4,00,000 × 60% = ₹2,40,000

These amounts are estimates and do not represent approval of any health claim.

Surrender Value Calculation

Surrender value, if any, is payable only after completion of the third policy anniversary. If an application is made within three years from commencement, the monetary value is determined according to the plan conditions but is payable only after three years from commencement.

The monetary value is based on the applicable NAV multiplied by the units in the policy fund. The plan has no surrender charge. However, policy status, the NAV date, and any applicable deductions can affect the final payment.

Death and Policy-Term Benefits

Plan 901 does not offer a separate death insurance cover. If the policy covers only the Principal Insured, the fund value is paid to the nominee or legal heirs upon their death.

When two or more members are covered, the outcome depends on when the death of the primary insured person occurs. If death occurs within three years of the policy’s inception, the policy generally terminates, and the fund value is paid out. If death occurs after three years, premium payments cease, while health cover for the remaining insured members may continue as long as charges can be met from the fund or until they reach the age at which coverage ends. At the end of the policy term, any balance remaining in the policy fund is payable to the Principal Insured. No policy loan is available under Plan 901.

Tax Benefits and Tax Rules

Premiums and benefits may receive tax treatment according to the policy conditions and the tax law applicable at the relevant time. Because Plan 901 is an old withdrawn policy, the tax result should not be assumed from current general rules alone.

The calculator does not decide whether a deduction or exemption is available. Policy records and applicable tax rules should be checked before making a tax claim.

Important Points to Remember

HCB and MSB payments depend on waiting periods, covered treatment, hospital-day limits, previous claims, and exclusions.

Fund and surrender values depend on the actual units and applicable NAV. Market returns are not guaranteed. The latest policy statement is more reliable than rebuilding an old fund value from assumed charges.
